Kia ora Christine!
It’s no surprise that team building in a group of disparate ‘team members’ is a difficult assignment - for anyone.
Trust, mutual respect and tollerance are three ingredients that are often difficult to find residing in every member of a group. Yet, along with the so-called ability to work collaboratively, these attributes are so important.
I say ’so-called ability’ because I feel that if it can be single out as a distinct ability, it relies to heavily on trust, mutual respect and tollerance that I wonder if it’s possible to isolate it from these other attributes.
For this reason, my hunch is that a main reason you find that some talented groups of people can’t ‘come together’ is that one or more of these attributes is lacking whithin the group that’s supposed to work as a team.
Another important ingredient is committment. This is difficult to initiate and foster in some people. Without committment there is no team, even if all the other ingredients are present.
