Life is a series of choices. Some work out better than others, but we do what we can with what we have to work with at the time. Exploring my options came out of a desire to use images to explore these choices. To offer tools that provide the opportunity for insights. To create a system to support exploration of a wide range of topics.
The seeds were planted long ago. Many of the deepest insights in my life came from images. Making images, noticing what they evoke, using them to trigger ideas and insight.
I started to paint with traditional media again after working on the computer for 15 years. There was a series of images sitting in my subconscious, all I needed to was to take the time to paint. No great art, but rather universal life themes. After making them for a while, I realized they were about exploring options.
Images have the power to activate parts of your brain and remind you of things you already know. After designing photo based products that use this aspect for VisualsSpeak, I started playing with using my painting as well. I discovered the paintings trigger even deeper places, tugging at things in the subconscious and unconscious mind.
Exploring New Options is where I use a combination of photography and painting in an online facilitation systems for coaches, counselors and small group leaders.
